Travel to India with Indian passport but British nationality

Hello, I recently got british nationality but still have indian passport and need to travel urgent to India. Can I use my indian passport?

Hi Jasvir, India is a country that does not allow dual citizenship for its citizens. Indian law suggests that a person who acquires a foreign citizenship should immediately surrender his or her passport at the nearest Indian consulate or embassy.

But i have nationality for 2 weeks now, what can i do?

People of Indian origin who have obtained UK citizenship will have a 90 day grace period. Within this time frame, the person should renunciate his or her Indian citizenship and should surrender the Indian passport. Once you surrender the Indian passport, the new UK citizen of Indian origin will be provided with a surrender certificate.

Okay so once I surrender the indian passport I can travel? Will i need tourist visa?

Once you receive your surrender certificate you will be able to travel with your British passport. You can either apply for a visa or for an OCI, which is Overseas Citizenship of India. All former Indian citizens who are now UK nationals or foreign nationals of Indian origin can apply for an OCI card.
