New passport and OCI

My son is 19 years old and we are travelling to India this month, we renewed his passport but not his OCI, will this be a problem when we travel?

Hi Jaswant, the re issuance of OCI card is mandatory every time passport is renewed up to the age of 20 years, and again after completing 50 years of age. However, the Government of India has decided to extend the temporary relaxation period till 30th June 2021 in case an OCI cardholder below the age of 20 years has not got the OCI card re issued on the change of passport. Cardholder may travel on the strength of their existing OCI card bearing old passport number subject to the condition that along with new passport, old passport mentioned in the OCI card is carried. More guidelines are provided on VFS Global website.
